Gilbert (Gib) Hedstrom has been involved with The Conference Board for over 25 years. He is deputy leader of the Global Sustainability Centre at The Conference Board. 

Hedstrom has over 30 years of experience advising CEOs and board members about how to handle difficult environmental and business challenges. He has met with boards of directors of Fortune 500 companies on over 60 occasions and frequently speaks about environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues.

After 20 years at Arthur D. Little, Hedstrom founded Hedstrom Associates in 2004. The firm specializes in business consulting and advisory services on sustainability, governance, and strategy. His clients have included Alcoa, Ashland, Autodesk, Baxter, Boeing, BP, Coca-Cola, Dell, Ford, GE, HP, Novartis, Novo Nordisk, Pemex, Shell, Sims Metal Management, United Technologies, and US Steel, among many others.

Hedstrom has authored several books and written dozens of articles related to environment, governance, strategy, and sustainability. His latest book, published by De Gruyter in 2018, is Sustainability: What it Is and How to Measure It.  In 2017, he published Sustainability—A Guide for Boards and C-Suites.  Both books are based on his proprietary corporate sustainability scorecard.

Hedstrom earned his MBA in corporate strategy and MS in natural resource management from the University of Michigan and BA in economics and geology from Hamilton College. He serves on the board of the Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise, University of Michigan. Hedstrom was recently invited to join the faculty of NACD (National Association of Corporate Directors) to advise board members on ESG issues.
