Dr. Steven Serra serves the National Medical Director for Aetna’s Commercial Clinical Business Support (CBS) organization where he has responsibility for inspiring and leading a high performing team of physicians, nurse and analytic consultants.  The centralized CBS team provides sales support, as well as diversified clinical support for existing business—which includes approximately 11-million commercial members.

Prior to joining Aetna Steven served as the regional flight surgeon for United Airlines in NYC and London and as the corporate medical director for DaimlerChrysler where he practiced occupational and aerospace medicine.  As part of these roles, Dr. Serra worked as a senior aviation medical examiner for the FAA and as a certified medical review officer for the U.S. Department of Transportation’s mandatory drug testing programs. 

Dr. Serra is board certified in Occupational & Environmental Medicine and board eligible in Aerospace Medicine.  He trained at the University of Utah where he completed both his Occupational Medicine Residency and received a Masters’ of Public Health in Occupational & Environmental Health & Safety. In 2020, Steven graduated from the London School of Economics where he is completed an Executive Master’s in Social Business & Entrepreneurship.

Steven is currently part of the inaugural Health Executive Advanced Leadership Program cohort at Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health; which is co-sponsored by CVS Health, Columbia and Aetna’s prior CEO Jack Rowe.
