Anouk Zeeuw van der Laan

Research Associate, PhD
Imperial College London

Anouk is a Research Associate at the Dyson School of Design Engineering at Imperial College London, an Associate Lecturer at Central Saint Martins at the University of the Arts London, and an independent consultant in design and research for the circular economy.

As she studied Industrial Design Engineering at Delft University of Technology, Anouk developed a passion for materials in design which motivated her to undertake material-driven design and research projects using waste and ephemeral materials. She pursued an industrial career working for the KraftHeinz Company in an operations management traineeship, continuous improvement, packaging procurement and packaging R&D. Following this, Anouk started a PhD position funded by the EPSRC and Procter & Gamble at the Dyson School of Design Engineering at Imperial College London. In her doctoral research, she continued to explore the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods industry and the challenges and opportunities related to its transition to a circular economy. Anouk developed knowledge, methods and a tool called the Flow Mapper, which focus on designing solutions for a circular economy by integrating tangible resource flows (e.g., materials and products) and sociotechnical systems. In her latest role as the Head of Circular Economy at Common Seas, she supported the development and realisation of methods and tools that help the hospitality sector and island municipalities adopt a circular economy.

Currently, Anouk teaches and tutors on topics related to the Circular Economy. Her consultancy work and research link to the circular economy and focus on tangible materials as well as the sociotechnical systems in which we use them.
