Beth Bannerman is Chief Engagement & Sustainability Officer at Amyris, Inc., a biotech company developing sustainable ingredients for businesses and consumer brands across the clean beauty, health and wellness, and flavors and fragrances markets. Beth leads an integrated team across corporate communications and sustainability. She is responsible for setting the strategic direction for internal and external communications and led the production of Amyris’ first Environmental, Social, and Governance report in 2021, as part of the company’s wider commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. She is a member of the UNICEF Speaker Series Committee for the US Northwest Board of Directors. In 2020, Beth led the launch of a new consumer brand, Purecane™ a natural, zero-calorie sweetener produced sustainably via synthetic biology. In less than a year, Purecane™ was recognized as a 2021 Fast Company Most Innovative Company and as part of the Popular Science Best Innovations of 2020. Under Beth’s purview, Purecane™ grew revenue to nearly $1M in the first year, diversified its product portfolio, and expanded its distribution channels to Amazon and internationally. Prior to her roles at Amyris as SVP, Corporate Communications & Engagement, interim CEO of Purecane™, and her current role as Chief Engagement and Sustainability Officer, Beth worked in the UK, leading international communications at The Royal Bank of Scotland Group, PLC, later named NatWest Group. At RBS, she advised the COO on media relations and corporate communications issues ranging from innovation and technology, disruptive business modeling, customer experience, and employee engagement. Previously, she advised the bank’s CFO and other C-level executives on communications strategy, crisis management, policy, investor relations and media relations. Prior to RBS, she led consumer banking communications, colleague engagement, and branding for Citizens Financial Group. Beth started her career as a journalist.
