Charles Popper is a Program Director at The Conference Board. In addition, he is the co-founder and CEO of TechPar Group (TPG), a strategic technology consultancy that delivers services to 200 technology investor, vendor, and user clients.
Prior to founding TPG, Popper served as vice chairman and chief technologist for Orama Partners, a boutique high-tech investment bank. Previously, he was global CIO at Merck, where he transformed the IT base and introduced formal IT governance and product/service management processes for Merck IT. Before working at Merck, Popper was a partner in the management consulting practice at Deloitte & Touche. Other roles include working as a mathematician for NSA; research scientist at Bell Laboratories, where he was recognized for leadership in the application of microprocessors and designed the first Bell Labs 8-bit microprocessor chip architecture; and leader of advanced technology (IT Innovation) for American Express (designed its image-based card-member billing system) and Lehman Brothers Kuhn Loeb (introduced Unix technology).
Popper received a BA and PhD from Harvard in applied mathematics and computer science.
