Darren Back leads Pfizer’s Global Health Investments group, responsible for driving Pfizer’s enterprise strategy for global public health and patient impact to expand the company’s commitments to the most vulnerable patients around the world. This includes driving health-related non-product investments, setting and leveraging The Pfizer Foundation global health investment strategy and leading global colleague pro-bono and community engagement initiatives.

As part of this role, Darren also led strategy and partnerships in support of An Accord for a Healthier World - Pfizer's bold global health access commitment to provide all current and future innovative medicines and vaccines to 45 lower-income countries around the world. As well as designing and launching the initiative in 2022, Darren played a key role in identifying and developing business partnerships and collaborations that help address the health equity gap.  

Darren is also Executive Director of The Pfizer Foundation, responsible for developing and leading investments and collaborations that address complex global health challenges, including grant making, disaster and humanitarian response, colleague community engagement and Board oversight.

Darren has held several senior roles at Pfizer including Communications lead for the R&D Portfolio, Strategy & Investment (PSI) governance body and the Strategy, Portfolio and Commercial Operations (SPCO) organization.

Darren has more than 18 years of strategic healthcare consultancy experience with specific focus on addressing global public health. Prior to joining Pfizer, he was Senior Vice President and Deputy Head of Hill & Knowlton New York Healthcare practice, providing corporate and marketing communications solutions for Amgen, Pfizer, Merck and J&J. He also has worked closely in the UK with GSK and Novartis and worked at AstraZeneca Global HQ in Sweden addressing market access challenges in Europe.

Darren holds a master’s in public health and Environmental Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a BSc in pharmacology from Kings College, London.
