Dave is an experienced sales leader in health and healthcare services. He began his career with Aetna in various sales, account management, sales training, and sales management roles across small, mid-sized, and national accounts. Dave was also one of the early employees of Definity Health, the inventor of the Health Reimbursement Account (HRA), and the pioneer of Consumer Driven Healthcare Plans (CDHPs) where he was responsible for regional employer sales, consumer sales, and account management growth. In four years, sales for the company grew to $100M. Upon the company's sale to United Health Group, he became President of the Healthcare Transformation Group within United's National Accounts Division and grew net new revenues for United by $50M in two years. Dave then co-founded RedBrick Health (now Virgin Pulse), a health and wellness company dedicated to changing the financing to reward consumers with healthy lifestyles. And in 2009, Dave co-founded Second Story Sales Company and currently serves as its CEO. Second Story Sales helps young and established health service organizations through the practical leadership of two Fortune 500 organizations and two start-ups to drive fresh thinking and results. Clients include health plans, providers interested in becoming Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), benefits consultants, accelerators, health improvement firms, coalitions, consumer advice companies, and digital health solutions. In 2013, Dave became a partner in Treehouse Health, a Minnesota health accelerator, and brought in strategic investors like Blue Cross Blue Shield of MN and Accenture. In 2016, Dave co-founded Surest (formerly known as Bind), the first Personalized Health Plan, and led employer and consumer sales until 2018, and then rejoined the company in 2019 and was responsible for consultant relations until the company’s sale to United Health Group in 2021. Dave holds a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University and is enrolled in the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) program through the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. He lectures frequently on health, health care, and innovations, and contributes regularly to seminars and conferences
