Demetrius Thornton is Chief Diversity Officer and Vice President of Talent Management at Madison Square Garden Sports and Entertainment. For more than twelve years, he has guided organizations through change to transform business operations that positively impact employee sentiment and employer brand. Prior to joining MSG, he was Vice President of Global Diversity and Inclusion at Credit Suisse Bank, where he created D&I programs, talent development initiatives, and communications strategies for the firm globally. Previously, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff advising municipal leaders on administrative policy, business optimization, crisis and operational planning support for the City of New York. In 2014, Demetrius was appointed Deputy Executive Director of Gracie Mansion and led meaningful and equitable programmatic experiences on behalf of the Mayor and First Lady of New York City, including diversity in the arts, cultural heritage programming, and STEM community training programs in partnership with Google. Before entering public service, he was a human capital and talent management business partner for Macy's, Horizon Media, and Kimpton Hotels. Demetrius is an adjunct professor at NYU’s Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sport and frequent speaker who shares tools to help others navigate for personal and professional success. He has spoken at JP Morgan Chase, Google, Penn State Sports Business Conference, Tennessee Valley Authority, and Teach for America. He is a member of the Council of Urban Professionals Alumni Board and was a 2018 Fellow. In addition, he is a NYC Mayor’s Office of Appointments Flash Mentorship Program Mentor, NYC Service Volunteer, and facilitator at the Dream Center of Harlem. Demetrius is a graduate of Morehouse College and completed master’s studies at both Troy and Fordham University.
