Diane Cafritz

Diane Cafritz is General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer & Chief Human Resources Officer, Senior Vice President of CarMax, Inc., the nation’s leading and largest specialty retailer of used cars. CarMax is a publicly traded, Fortune 500 company and has been awarded one of the top 100 Places to Work 17 years in a row. CarMax has also been recognized for several years as a top training organization and a top employer for diversity and inclusion. She joined CarMax in February of 2003 as assistant general counsel, managing commercial and consumer litigation. She was promoted to associate general counsel, director in 2005 and deputy general counsel, assistant vice president in 2010, and vice president in 2013. While a leader in the legal department and prior to her promotion to Chief Human Resources Officer, Ms. Cafritz led the Store Operations and Litigation team responsible for commercial, consumer and regulatory litigation and regulatory compliance for the sale, purchase and service of retail and wholesale vehicles. Ms. Cafritz also created and led the company’s government affairs program. She was promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer in April of 2017 when she became responsible for the human resources and asset protection functions to ensure an exceptional workplace where CarMax’s associates and culture can thrive. In April of 2021, Ms. Cafritz also took on leadership of the company’s internal communications team and corporate social responsibility efforts. In July 2021, in addition to her CHRO responsibilities, Ms. Cafritz became the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer to lead the legal and compliance departments. Ms. Cafritz is a member of the CEO’s Senior Executive Team.
