Harvey D. Shapiro is a writer and consultant based in New York City. Shapiro, who is currently a senior contributing editor at Institutional Investor Magazine, has also been a columnist for the New York Times and a contributor to the New York Times Magazine and Book Review. He has also written for a number of other leading magazines and newspapers. 

Shapiro has been active as a speechwriter for a number of senior corporate executives, as well as candidates for elected office, and he has served as a ghostwriter for several books and numerous articles and essays. . 

Shapiro has been a consultant to a number of major financial institutions and industrial companies in the United States and abroad. Shapiro has also been a consultant to the President’s Commission on Income Maintenance Programs, the Cabinet Committee on Cable Communications, and the U.S. Small Business Administration. In addition, he has been a consultant to the Ford and Russell Sage Foundations, the Rand Corporation, and the Urban Institute. He has also been a member of the Council on Foreign Relations’ Task Force on Country Risk. 

Shapiro, a native of Wisconsin, holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Princeton University, and the University of Chicago. He was a Walter Bagehot Fellow at Columbia University, where he has also served as an adjunct professor.
