John Lyons

John Lyons has spent 40 years working in the Telecommunications industry, specialising in the management of Health and Safety for the last 25 years.

He recently retired as Group Head of Health, Safety and Environment for Telefónica Europe plc. He had joined the Company in March 2002 after leaving BT plc where he had held the position of Group Head of Safety.

John is a Chartered Fellow of the UK’s Institution of Occupational Safety and Health and the Vice Chair of their International Group, he is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and of the American Society of Safety Engineers, a qualified Fire Engineer and Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers.

He has participated in a variety of parliamentary working parties at both UK and EC level and was the Chair for The Conference Board’s European Health and Safety Council for 10 years. John has a track record in the development and implementation of corporate risk based strategies for managing health & safety, with clear focus on organisational alignment and defined roles & responsibilities, ensuring that health and safety remains a Board level issue.
