Melissa Skottegaard is Chief Communications Officer for Cigna, where she is responsible for leading the company’s enterprise media relations, employee communications, CEO communications, and enterprise executive and function communications. Melissa has more than 20 years of corporate communications leadership experience in Fortune 100 companies. Prior to joining Cigna, she was Vice President, Corporate Communications at TIAA where she led business, executive, and employee communications. In her tenure with TIAA, she drove the launch of the company’s new strategy and brand to clients, brokers, and customers. She also served as the Marketing and Communications Chief of Staff. Melissa also held senior marketing and communication roles at GE and Genworth Financial. She served as the first Vice President of Global Civic Affairs at Genworth following the company’s IPO from General Electric. She began her corporate career heading media relations and communications for a business division of GE in Denver, Colorado. While with GE, she also earned certification as a Six Sigma Black Belt. Melissa started her professional career in not-for-profit organizations working in social work with homeless children and families. Melissa holds a Masters in Communications from the University of Denver, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado. Melissa and her husband Nick, have two children and reside in Simsbury, Connecticut.
