As Program Manager, Merel Spierings develops and executes all corporate governance programming for the ESG Center, including working groups, roundtables, webcasts, podcasts, and member briefings. She also produces program-related reports. Her recent publications include Insights for Investors and Companies in Addressing Today's Social Issues and Under a Microscope: A New Era of Scrutiny for Corporate Political Activity.
Prior to joining The Conference Board, Merel was with the Society for Corporate Governance and with CamberView Partners, a boutique advisory firm representing public companies in situations involving shareholder engagement and activism.
She began her career with ABN AMRO Bank at the Corporate Office, where she reported to the Corporate Secretary and managed the project that was set up to ensure the Board of Directors would pass the newly introduced "suitability screening". She also co-led the global reorganization of ABN AMRO's compliance department and managed relationships with the Dutch financial regulators.
Merel earned a master's degree in Law from Leiden University and a master's degree in Business Studies from the University of Amsterdam.
