Relevant Experience/Specialization

Monica Ko is a pharmacist by background and located in WTW’s Pittsburgh office.  She joined WTW’s Health & Benefits practice in 2015 and focuses on intellectual capital as well as providing pharmacy consulting. 

Monica leads the WTW Clinical Marketplace Innovation Hub that maintains up-to-date information on the rapid advances within the pharmacy benefit landscape, with a specific focus on gene therapies and innovative third-party vendors.  She consults with large national companies across a variety of industries in key pharmacy management areas including vendor contractual management (procurement, contract negotiations, and auditing) and clinical strategy (benchmarking, utilization management programs, integrated wellbeing initiatives). 

She has also led the pharmacy Talent & Development team that fosters colleague career development and a Specialty Product Development national team tasked with creating innovative solutions and partnerships to manage specialty trend.  She also served as a leader and liaison for the WTW Gender Equality team within the Milwaukee office for two years to educate and engage local team members in Inclusion & Diversity awareness.

Prior to joining WTW, Monica worked within managed care at a national pharmacy benefit management company for just under ten years in both the analytic consultant and clinical account executive roles.  As an analytic consultant, she programmed code to pull pharmacy claims data and summarized the data trends to recommend relevant management strategies.  As a clinical account executive, she focused on developing clinical strategies, including formulary review and utilization management, to drive clinical quality for large BlueCross BlueShield plans.

 

Education and Credentials

Monica received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Illinois-Chicago and her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University.  She holds an Illinois pharmacy license and is a member of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy.
