Valerie Capers Workman has over 10 years of legal experience as a Vice President with global consumer brands including Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Realogy, FOCUS Brands, and most recently Tesla. At Tesla, she led corporate compliance programs until 2019 when she was promoted to lead Tesla’s People organization overseeing all HR programs including recruiting and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. During her tenure as Tesla’s People leader she published its first-ever DEI Report; replaced its “Anti-Handbook, Handbook” with a comprehensive online employee guidebook; created the community relations and supplier diversity team which functions to promote community access to high-paying manufacturing jobs and opportunities for small businesses; introduced an array of family planning benefits to ensure that all employees have equal access to medical resources; and launched multiple campaigns to promote the utilization of Tesla’s mental health benefit. Valerie was also a member of Tesla’s COVID Response Task Force established in December 2019 which created innovative employee protection programs. During her time at Tesla, Valerie became known as Tesla's "Top Diversity Advocate" In February 2022 Valerie joined Handshake as its first Chief Legal Officer. Valerie is admitted to practice law in New York, Texas, and Washington, D.C.
