The Conference Board is delighted to present the inaugural ESG Leadership Awards dinner. Held on May 16th in New York City, this celebration honors organizations that have moved beyond their public sustainability commitments and have integrated sustainability into their business, making a positive impact on the company, stakeholders, society at large, and the environment.

By shining a light on exemplary companies, The Conference Board inspires the broader business community to follow in their footsteps. Importantly, the dinner will provide support to The Conference Board’s programming and publications specifically focused on a key challenge facing corporations today: defining and determining the ROI of ESG.

With companies’ sustainability efforts under intense scrutiny from investors, regulators, and others—and as companies move forward in integrating sustainability into their business—it’s critical to understand what kinds of returns are generated by their sustainability efforts.

The Conference Board’s programming and publications stemming from this initiative will provide valuable insights on:

  • Defining what qualifies as a sustainability initiative.
  • Determining what kind of ROIs companies want to calculate.
  • Understanding the purposes of calculating ROI and methods of calculating ROI, including those that:
    • Are relatively direct to measure (such as cost savings and revenue enhancement);
    • Result from improvements in the company’s position in labor markets, capital markets, and products/services markets; and
    • Stem from more systemic improvements in terms of reductions in environmental and social risk.
  • Identifying ways that companies can best communicate, both internally and externally, the ROI of sustainability.
