Background

Generative AI promises to have a profound impact on business and society.  It will test companies’ ability to address the business opportunities and risks associated with yet another transformative technology. They will also offer a test case for board- and management-level governance.  We can expect that the governance of AI will need to evolve as the technology itself, its business applications, and the regulatory environment also develop.

You will not want to miss this discussion with Dominique Shelton Leipzig, a partner with Mayer Brown’s Los Angeles Office, Dominique is not only an expert in data privacy and security but is a national thought leader on AI, spearheading the first annual Digital Trust Summit co-sponsored by The Conference Board at Brown University earlier this year, and Alonzo Barber, Associate General Counsel at Microsoft.

The Center Briefing will address:

  • The evolving legal landscape for generative AI, which will set the ground rules for corporate governance in this area.
  • Board-level governance of AI, including how corporate boards can play an effective decision-making and oversight role in this area.  What kind of education do directors need?  What questions should they ask?  What, if any, implications does AI have for board responsibilities, structure, and composition?  And how will this evolve?
  • Management-level of governance of AI, including what kind of cross-functional structures and processes may help in taking advantage of the business opportunities and mitigating the substantial risks associated with AI.
  • The role of the CLO, in developing, refining, and managing both internal governance and external stakeholder relations with respect to AI.
