Chief communicators’ scope has expanded to a range of constituencies and topics, requiring T-shaped communications expertise: broad generalist comms know-how combined with focused subject area expertise related to employees, sustainability, finance, and other topics. This has also led to CCO+ titles such as Chief Communications and Marketing Officer, Chief Communications and HR Officer, or Chief Communications and ESG/Sustainability Officer. How are comms leaders effectively managing to combine comms generalist and niche expertise?

We invite Marketing & Communications Center members to join our discussion of this topic in a confidential, 45-minute virtual roundtable. We will discuss the following questions:

  • Which topics and focus areas have expanded your/your team’s role the most?
  • How do you/your teams ramp up on your expertise to cover broader, bigger roles?
  • How is communicators' expanding role changing relationships and collaboration across the company?
  • What is the latest on hiring, finding talent, and the desired profile of new hires?
