As many businesses across Europe move out of the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic and resume some semblance of the new normal, we spoke to 15 CHROs and HR Executive members based in Europe about their top strategic priorities for the next two to three years.

As their companies emerge from the COVID-19 crisis, leaders reappraise their strategic priorities, which are distilled into three main concerns:

  • Accelerating business transformation;
  • Succeeding through talent; and
  • Building leadership capability post-COVID-19.

The Future of Work: Within Touching Distance

Leaders are shifting their focus away from the urgent planning necessitated by the pandemic “back to the future”—reappraising their business models in the light of changed customer and competitor behavior, accelerated digitalization and new demands from talented workers. Many have a sense that the “future of work”—where all aspects of work and the workplace are reimagined and redesigned—is within touching distance.For one global head, the volatility and uncertainty of the current environment offers firms a new opportunity to transform. “All the talk about new ways of working postpandemic captures the sense of a moment when something has fundamentally changed. We must rethink how we respond to emerging trends and accelerate the changes we need to make.”
