What's Next for 21st-Century HR? Deere & Company: Using Data to Accelerate HR Transformation

Using data, John Deere started hiring people in advance of its needs by creating a strategic internship program that trained early recruits in future-oriented spaces like the use of drones. In proposing the internship program to senior management, HR applied analytics to examine how a select batch of recruits grew, how many were retained, how many became specialists, and how many became general leaders. The implications of people retiring were also considered, which led to a finding that hiring mid-career employees generally led to people retiring within 15 years of service. Based on this data, HR received immediate approval for the program.
