Senior management ‘comfort’ on geopolitical risk management (GRM) preparedness can enhance HQ-China alignment and thereby unblock organizations to act with confidence and compete more effectively in China.

Key Insights

  • While geopolitical events are inherently unpredictable, the types of impacts they can cause are empirically knowable (e.g., production delays, sanctions, prohibitions, fines, PR crises).
  • By systematically cataloguing potential impacts, robust mitigation planning can be done irrespective of the geopolitical events and gyrations involved. 
  • This bottom-up, impacts-based approach to Sino-Western geopolitical risk management resolves important gaps in scenario-based planning methods.
  • It also provides higher confidence for HQ boards and C-suites in business resilience and organizational readiness in the face of myriad complex and fast-moving geopolitical hazards.
