Traditionally centered on social issues and philanthropy, corporate citizenship is increasingly addressing key environmental concerns. Surveyed corporate citizenship leaders are planning to further bolster this focus in the coming years. This shift aligns with broader business and stakeholder priorities, positioning corporate citizenship as a more strategic lever.

A survey by The Conference Board of 63 corporate citizenship leaders reveals that 72% report a moderate or significant focus on environmental issues. Emissions, water, renewable energy, and climate resilience emerged in the survey as top concerns, reflecting CEO and C-Suite ESG priorities for 2024. To enhance the impact of corporate citizenship in these areas, companies can take the following actions:

  • Emissions: Align philanthropic initiatives with environmental, social & governance goals by funding projects that support emission-reduction efforts or explore innovative solutions not yet commercially viable.
