Women of Color: Strategies for Leadership Success

Women of color are significantly underrepresented among American corporate officers and directors. They generally lack access to networks of influential colleagues who can help them advance in their careers, and they often feel isolated at work. There are trust issues between women of color and white women which cause them to stay within their own groups. Women of color can broaden their career options by creating networks outside their departments, companies, and groups. Other helpful actions include building relationships with key stakeholders in their companies, joining affinity groups, requesting developmental feedback, and formulating active career plans.
