Heresniak suggests that recent U.S. scandals concerning spying and privacy will have a detrimental effect on would-be entrepreneurs in other countries who have long looked to the United States as a haven of freedom. Americans' "assumption of safety and privacy and freedom is key to why the United States has for so long been a prime destination for ambitious citizens of China and other countries," Heresniak writes. "But that perception is in real jeopardy, and no one knows the potential consequences."
