The Conference Board Economics Watch® United States View

Only a few weeks ago, fear of an impending global recession sent financial markets into turmoil. However, The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for the United States suggested financial markets were overreacting. To be sure, the forward indicators are not all that bullish, but neither have they turned down markedly. Domestically, strong job growth reflects an economy maintaining momentum. Overall prospects for consumers remain favorable, but business confidence and spending remain weak.
