Strategic HR Center Newsletter

Our Center's first Advisory Board meeting generated insights from CHROs across the world. They identified some key themes that are having a growing impact on HR leaders and practitioners:

  • Proactive social positioning Employees increasingly expect companies to take a position on current events. This expectation challenges how companies get involved in government and public policy developments. Examples were cited in many countries and seem to be having an increasing impact on attracting and retaining talent.
  • The 100-year life A person born today in a wealthy country has a 50 percent chance of living to age 105, and people in their 20s today have a 50 percent chance of living to age 100. How is this demographic reality likely to affect government/social policy and HR strategies?
  • Public and private partnerships and other collaboration models with governments For example, after a natural disaster, local private enterprises can significantly contribute to social and economic recovery. HR’s value-added contribution to the partnership requires being an “anticipator” of such developments.

The recently published Global Leadership Forecast 2018 surveyed over 25,000 leaders across the world and provides fascinating insights into HR's “anticipator” role. Please let me know your views on the key trends affecting HR, which will help shape our research agenda.
