Winning in the storytelling category for the academic division, Tarrant County College (TCC) strived to communicate with those who may know the college but may believe the programs or students don’t affect them personally. By utilizing video to tell the college’s story, TCC’s goal was to engage the hearts and minds of the community.
THE ISSUE BEING ADDRESSED Tarrant County College (TCC) is one of the nation’s 20-largest higher educational institutions, serving approximately 100,000 students each year. Though Tarrant County residents all support TCC—a six-campus community college that offers both academic and technical programs—through their tax dollars, those who have not attended TCC do not necessarily think that the school touches their lives in any way. As our state funding continues to decrease, TCC is now pursuing public-private partnerships with area companies, as well as large endowments from area philanthropists, so that the school can continue to grow, add programs and meet the ever-changing needs of the community. To secure these types of support from individuals and groups who may not think TCC has anything to do with them, we needed to find a way of showing what our community would be like in absence of the community college.
