European View: Fears for a Fourth COVID-19 Wave in Q3 Cloud the Region's Outlook in H2 2021

Economic activity in the Euro Area in Q2 rebounded strongly, setting the stage for even higher output gains in the second half of the year. Our forecast for Euro Area’s GDP expanding by 4.4 percent in 2021 remains for the moment unchanged. However, Q3 will be crucial. The recently rapid spread of the Delta variant of coronavirus and how countries will respond to it will to a large extent affect the region’s growth outlook in the near term and beyond.
