European View: Euro Area economy contracts, and recovery is uncertain

Detailed figures for France and Spain show that nearly all components of GDP declined. Consumption fell in both countries. Investment in France contracted severely. In Spain, the deepest drop was in trade, including the drop in foreign tourism. More than half of European CEOs expect it will take the global economy between one and two years to fully recover, with most others thinking it will take even longer.
