While one-fifth of the US population lives in rural areas, it receives a far smaller share of philanthropic dollars. As The Conference Board reported, rural America has the opportunity to grow in a post-pandemic economy, but only if it overcomes barriers in areas such as broadband, education, child care, and health care. Successfully addressing these challenges also has the potential to lessen the sense of economic alienation in rural America that adds to the political polarization of our society.
