The Conference Board Gulf Center Signs Collaboration with Supreme Council for Planning and Development in Kuwait
29 April, 2019

Today, The Conference Board Gulf Center for Economic and Business Research signed a collaboration agreement with the Supreme Council for Planning and Development in Kuwait. The agreement includes the intention of both organizations to collaborate on research and thought leadership for the advancement of strategic planning and policy making among the GCC countries, and in particular, Kuwait. The collaboration will include the conducting of quantitative economic and business research, engagement by both entities with business and policy communities, and collaboration to transfer knowledge and strengthen the creation of capabilities for strategic planning and policy making in the region.

“This collaboration is an important recognition of what The Conference Board’s new Center, which was only recently established, can bring to the nation and the region,” said Hisham Al-Razzuqi, Chairman of the Gulf Center’s Advisory Board, who spearheaded the effort to launch the new Center which is modelled after The Conference Board’s China Center in Beijing. “The Conference Board is well positioned to facilitate the exchange of insights between government and business leaders and those around the world on issues of critical importance to our economy and the business community.”

The collaboration will focus on a portfolio of topics of common interest to the business and policy communities in the GCC as well as globally, ranging from economic development, labour markets and human capital, consumer markets, economic diversification, and productivity, innovation and competitiveness.

“We welcome The Conference Board as a research partner here in Kuwait,” said Khaled Mahdi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council. “It is important that we absorb as much fresh thinking as possible on critical policy issues with regard to economic development of our country, learn from other countries’ experiences on economic and business issues, and embed those insights in our local policy environment.”

The Conference Board recently expanded its global footprint by launching the Gulf Center for Economics and Business Research in November 2018. The Center received initial funding from the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, as part of a three-year incubation grant, and from the Kuwait Banking Association, which will provide financial and practical support. Businesses operating in the region will make up the Center’s membership. Based in Kuwait, the Center will help local and global companies in the region grow their business, develop their employees, and favorably shape the operating environment in the region. The Center will produce information both about high-frequency indicators and long-term structural trends to provide businesses with tools for navigating an increasingly complex, interconnected global economy. In addition to member companies receiving ongoing economic research and briefings, the Center will create peer networks for business leaders and functional experts. This combination of research and peer-learning will provide exclusive benefits to help members improve government relations, human resources, operations, and corporate social responsibility. Like the rest of The Conference Board, the new Center is non-partisan, non-profit, and does not lobby. Prospective companies can learn more about becoming a member of the Center by contacting
