On the Record With ... Sajjan Jindal

Sajjan Jindal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, JSW Steel, Ltd.; Mumbai, India, says the pressure for short-term performance is intense but it is important to keep a longer-term focus. “I also see a lot of CEOs who are under this huge pressure to perform on a quarterly basis,” he says. “Shareholders must look at the long-term perspective of the company.” One of the biggest barriers to growth and expansion for Indian companies is the lack of experienced management talent capable of working across different cultures. Importing expats is not an answer. Rather, India needs to grow its own managerial talent.
