US Supply Chain Initiative

December 14, 2023

The President recently released an initiative on supply chains, with a new White House Council on the subject and about 30 actions focused on supply chain resilience.

  • The actions concern a wide variety of economic sectors: health care, transportation, agriculture, critical minerals, energy, and defense.
  • Some supply chain pressures have eased in recent months but several indexes, such as oceanic shipping times and performance, remain below pre-pandemic levels.
  • The Administration is likely worried about two principal issues regarding supply chains: their effect on overall inflation and those supply chains essential to national defense, the energy transition, and other areas impacting national and economic security.
