The risk, compliance and governance dilemma continues to play an instrumental role in corporate decision-making when charting the path for business growth. What are the key trends in these issues and what is the latest thinking for strategies to manage the challenges? To provide answers The Directors’ Collective™ convened executive briefings at the end of March 2016 in Mumbai and New Delhi.

The invited audience at these briefings learnt of the six big-picture trends that emerge from The Conference Board CEO Challenge® 2016 report, and the top strategies cited by CEO to meet key challenges. They also heard from a panel of experts from KPMG on the key risks that are worrying global boards, and specifically how cyber risk and cybersecurity is becoming a key theme for boards.

The India Governance Landscape: Understanding Demands and Deficiencies

The Directors’ Collective™ convened its inaugural series of executive briefings in the third week of January, 2016, in New Delhi and Mumbai. These sessions covered the implications for public companies in India of The Companies Act 2013 (The Act), including the wide-ranging new oversight responsibilities for the board of directors, new regulatory standards raising the bar on independence and qualifications of directors, and expectations on executives regarding compliance, internal audit and risk management.   

These briefings attracted an audience of close to ninety board members, CEOs and senior executives who are facing the complexities of the new law and regulations. Participants gained an introduction to the array of knowledge resources delivered by The Directors’ Collective™, previewed findings from the newly released report Handbook on Corporate Governance in India: Legal Standards and Board Practices from The Directors’ Collective™; learned about the requirements introduced by The Act; and Participated in a discussion with a panel of experts from Khaitan & Co., KPMG, Russell Reynolds Associates and The Conference Board.
