2023-04-10
The Conference Board is saddened to announce the passing of its former President and Chief Economist, Gail Fosler. She passed away on April 2 at the age of 75.
Fosler joined The Conference Board in 1989, serving as Chief Economist for nearly two decades. From 2007 to 2009 she served as the organization’s President.
"Gail was a visionary economist who had a profound impact on the world of business and beyond," said Steve Odland, President and CEO of The Conference Board. "Her insights, intellect, and grace will be deeply missed. We are grateful for the many contributions she made, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family and friends during this time."
Under Fosler’s leadership as Chief Economist and President, The Conference Board assumed responsibility for the Leading Economic Indicators program from the US Department of Commerce; expanded its programs in productivity, labor markets, and innovation; increased its global portfolio of indicators; and founded the China Center for Economics and Business. During her tenure, the Wall Street Journal twice named Fosler “America’s most accurate economic forecaster.” She also was a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion and worked tirelessly to mentor young economists.
The Conference Board community extends its deepest sympathies to Gail's family and friends. Her legacy will continue to inspire us.
