China Center Chart Dive: Mining Trump's China Tweets—Just 'Flash,' or Indicators of the New China Policy Ideology?

It stands to reason that analyzing the president’s pre-inauguration Twitter statements on China may be one lens for assessing future policy directions. With this lens in mind, we mined his Twitter account (@realDonaldTrump) for any mention of China since he opened the account in March 2009. We identified 492 separate tweets on China between January 27, 2011, and January 2, 2017, and generated a word cloud from their content. The size of the words reflects the frequency with which they appear in this subset – bigger words appear more frequently and smaller words less frequently. In this Chart Dive, we examine the five strongest themes yielded from this exercise and try to give them greater context for business leaders.
