European View: The strength of the recovery in Q4 becomes more uncertain amid a resurgence of COVID-19

October 14, 2020 | Report

The share of positive COVID-19 test results is increasing in Europe. Despite that, workers continued to return to their workplaces in September. It is interesting to observe that corporate bankruptcies did not increase through Q2 2020; in fact, in some countries the number of bankruptcies decreased compared to previous years. This will be a key figure to monitor in the coming months to assess the economic impact of the pandemic. Unemployment, which has already been on an upward trend since July, will also be affected if bankruptcies increase substantially in the next months.
