Good health – mental and physical – is fundamental to vibrant societies. But 80% of our health is driven by social determinants including where we live. If you live in a densely populated urban area where you lack resources, your life expectancy is shorter than if you live in an affluent suburbia neighborhood.
The pandemic has highlighted health inequalities across the globe. It has also raised the question whether and how health equity, the notion that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be healthy, can be realized.
