Beyond the 20th NPC | The Road Ahead for Foreign Investors in China

January 12, 2023 | Report

Building on the observations and experience of the last 10 years, this session of the China CEO Council unpacked the key proceedings and content of the 20th NPC to assess and opine on the policy directions for the next five years and beyond: What is likely to change? What stays the same? What can be confidently learned from the 20th NPC?

Our analysis focused on informing two aspects of future-forward business planning:

  1. From the top leadership’s perspective, what role(s) is envisaged for foreign companies in China in the next five years? Where are the key alignment points, and what new value proposition elements can be developed to create regulatory space and advance and defend market positions?
  2. Given what is currently knowable and what is not – economic, domestic policy, geopolitics, etc. – what general “resets” to China strategy of MNCs and operations are called for?
