In the past two years, US companies have found themselves under pressure to take stands on a variety of social and political issues, including racial equality, COVID-19 vaccinations, voting rights, and the war in Ukraine. The recent US Supreme Court rulings in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization on women’s reproductive rights and New York State Rifle & Pistol Ass’n v. Bruen on gun regulation have provided the latest catalysts for companies to consider whether and how to respond to hot-button social issues.
