Environmental Justice: Moving to Center Stage

/ Report

Only 3% of companies in the Russell 3000 mention environmental justice (EJ) in their public reports. Even so, the underlying goal of EJ—that is, tackling environmental issues in a way that is fair to all people, regardless of social or economic background—is set to be an increasingly important focus for corporate America as businesses recognize the human impacts of addressing environmental issues. The shift to renewable energy, in particular, is expected to cause significant disruptions that will raise questions about social and economic fairness. This report addresses how companies can best integrate EJ considerations in their decision-making processes, in areas ranging from operations to philanthropy.
