The Conference Board Human Capital in Review™: Focus on Employee Engagement (Vol. 2, No. 3, 2013)

This publication explores hot topics within strategic workforce planning research by providing actionable summaries of contemporary literature.

Implementing strategies and gaining stakeholder buy-in continue to be perceived as critical challenges in the engagement arena. One innovative and increasingly popular implementation strategy is the application of gamification principles to increase employee engagement, which offers an alternative to the short-lived productivity gains from financial incentives. Another study referenced in this issue looks at the how recessions affect productivity, finding that workers with lower output in nonrecessionary periods are those most likely to increase their effort during a recession.
