On the Record With...Alain J.P. Belda

Alain J.P. Belda, Chairman and CEO, Alcoa, Inc., New York  believes companies can meet customer needs from anywhere in the world. In other words, offshoring will continue to grow, mainly because of the economics behind it. He points to the emergence of developing markets in China and India, supported by internet access and World Trade Organization access, and suggest this points to a forthcoming re-pricing of goods and services worldwide. Globalization means managers who can work across cultures are more valuable than ever—and they are not easy to find. Talent development, he says, will be “the big issue.”
