Almost two years after the COVID-19 pandemic plunged the United States and the world into economic and social disruption, the nation is recovering. But challenges—some from the pandemic itself, and others revealed and exacerbated by it—remain. Achieving prosperity for all Americans and strengthening the nation’s global leadership require defeating COVID-19 and restoring the country’s fiscal health.

To do so, the Committee for Economic Development, the public policy center of The Conference Board (CED), has outlined key priorities to achieve two main objectives: 1) defeat the pandemic and restore the nation’s public health; and 2) revitalize the nation’s fiscal health.

As the infographic illustrates, leaders must restore the nation’s public health by taking steps such as improving vaccination access, COVID-19 testing, creating a Strategic National Stockpile for medical supplies, and helping train more health care workers. Simultaneously, they must improve the nation’s worsening fiscal health. This can be achieved through bipartisan policy solutions focused on the federal budget and debt, infrastructure, technology, cybersecurity, supply chains and trade, immigration, and climate.
