Using The Conference Board®-The Burning Glass® Help Wanted OnLine® (HWOL) dataset, we can measure which job titles in corporate America become more or less popular over time.
Since 2020, demand for certain managerial-level job titles and the number of employers that post online job ads with those titles have gained traction. Shown in the charts below, the share of managerial-level online job ads containing keywords “Diversity”, “Culture”, and “Growth” in the title are climbing.

Since June 2020, the share of managerial-level job titles with keyword “Diversity” rose significantly. The timeline closely aligns with the George Floyd and anti-police brutality protests that began in late May 2020, signaling a greater commitment by companies to attract and retain a diverse staff. Common job titles include “Chief Diversity Officer”, “Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion” and “Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion”.
The share of managerial-level job titles with keyword “Culture” has grown considerably in 2021 and continues to rise. To navigate a complex labor market characterized by labor shortages and high rates of remote work, employers shifted their focus to their company culture to attract, recruit, and retain talent. Common job titles include “Director of People and Culture”, “Director of Talent and Culture”, and “Vice President of People and Culture”.
