In 2018, the economies of emerging Asia are expected to grow at 4.9 percent -- a slight improvement over 2017. While the region’s growth rate is likely to slow in the medium term, it will still perform better than the global emerging market average. Deceleration in China’s economic growth, Southeast Asia’s exposure to rising antiglobalization sentiment in the West, and challenges fully translating a demographic dividend in India into productive human capital are significant impediments to the region’s growth potential.
