China Economist and Business Planners Roundtable -- Session Report

In December 2014, The Conference Board China Center convened its annual Economists and Business Planners' Roundtable in Beijing, where the group discussed and debated the outlook for the global and Chinese economies in 2015 and beyond.

A summary of discussion points, projections, business issues and member insights from the roundtable session can be found by downloading the session write-up. Due to the closed-door nature of the meeting, the summary omits comments by our guest speaker, PBoC Chief Economist Dr. Ma Jun, and all company-specific comments have been sanitized.

Meeting participants drilled down into the medium- and long-term outlook for China—specifically, The Conference Board China Center’s expectation of a “Long Soft Fall in Chinese Growth.” This outlook was framed against the emerging narrative of a “new normal” for Chinese growth.

The group went on to discuss China’s short-term outlook, as projected by The Conference Board and the member poll.
