Rethinking Talent Strategies to Address Service Industry Labor Shortages

April 24, 2023 | Report

To sufficiently staff hotels, Marriott International is restructuring compensation, seeking alternative talent pools, and expanding employee training.

Since the onset of COVID-19, the service and manufacturing industry has struggled to restaff and operate at prepandemic levels. According to The Conference Board C-Suite Outlook, CEOs’ top internal focus for 2023 is to attract and retain talent, and CEOs see labor shortages as a major disrupter to their 2023 business operations. To retain and attract employees in this environment, Marriott International, an organization that operates over 5,800 hotels in the US and Canada and whose workforce is 85 percent hourly, is responding to workforce changes and evolving its employee experience to meet the needs of the future.
