Geothermal energy harnesses the Earth’s internal heat to generate heat and electricity without the intermittency typical of solar and wind. This article explores the mechanisms of geothermal electricity production, its global and US utilization, its expansion challenges, and why the world might need significantly more geothermal energy, funded partially by the public sector, to support a global push toward net zero.
