National Cyber Strategy Implementation Plan and Workforce Strategy

The White House recently published its National Cybersecurity Strategy Implementation Plan, a roadmap to realize the National Cybersecurity Strategy released in March that focuses on bolstering cybersecurity in critical infrastructure and driving private-sector adoption of secure practices. The Administration separately released the National Cyber Workforce and Education Strategy on July 31 as a core piece of the Implementation Plan.

  • The Implementation Plan prescribes roles and timelines for federal agencies to complete initiatives under the National Strategy, with some completion dates extending out until 2026. However, the Administration will update the Plan annually as initiatives progress and the threat environment changes.
  • Securing infrastructure organizations is an immediate focus of the plan, with a new request for information open to operators through September 15, which aims to gather feedback on harmonization of baseline cyber requirements.
  • The National Cyber Workforce and Education Strategy calls for building local ecosystems including the private sector, academic institutions, and workforce development programs to widen the availability of cybersecurity curricula and training activities, while also listing areas where federal investment and coordination can advance initiatives.
